Victims of Crime

Victims of Crime can call for FREE help. This service is provided by the Ministry of General and Correctional Services for the province of Ontario and is available through toll-free telephone lines.

By calling 1-888-579-2888 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week, anyone affected by crime can access an Automated Information and Referral Service (AIRS) or the Victim Notification Service (VNS).

AIRS is an automated voice tape which provides information on the criminal justice system including arrest and release procedures, the court system and, definitions of parole and probation.

With VNS, you can request or provide certain information on a specific adult offender in the Ontario corrections system. Your message will be returned the next day by a ministry representative.

Commencing in December '96 a third service will be offered through the same toll-free number, giving callers from across the province person-to-person contact with information counsellors.

Around-the-clock information services for victims available in their local communities will also be offered.
