Inline Skating Safety

Getting Started

  • Choose comfortable Skates.
  • Purchase all safety gear; helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist pads.
  • Get instructed on how to "rollerblade".
  • Practice walking on grass first.
  • Practice breaking turning and falling.

Rules

  • You must obey all the rules of the roadway at all times.
  • You should always travel in the same direction as the traffic when on the roadway.
  • You must not roller blade where there are signs saying that skates are not allowed.
  • You should always give the right-of-way to persons walking on a sidewalk.
  • Never allow yourself to be towed behind a bicycle or motor vehicle.
  • Never play tag or race on or near a roadway.

Watch Out! Always avoid:

  • Loose gravel
  • Fallen leaves
  • Fallen branches or debris
  • Litter
  • Cracks in the pavement
  • Water/Oil
  • Tar on the Roadways
  • Railway Tracks
Any of the above items could cause an inline skater to fall and seriously injure themselves.
