VICTORIA DAY WEEKEND SAFETY
WOODSTOCK, ON (May 19, 2023) – The Woodstock Police Service would like to remind everyone celebrating or traveling this weekend to do so safely. Officers will be on the roads patrolling looking for distracted, intoxicated and aggressive drivers.
Drivers excited to get to their destination may not pay enough attention or drive too fast. Police want to remind commuters to pay attention, buckle up and slow down. As many people are celebrating this weekend, please confirm a designated driver or an alternate safe ride home and do not get behind the wheel after consuming drugs or alcohol.
Boaters using motorized boats should possess a pleasure craft operator card, be sober and have passengers on board wear life jackets/personal floatation devices. They should also be prepared and have all the necessary equipment while out on the water.
If you are looking for a fireworks show, it is recommended you attend a show put on by a licensed organization rather than setting them off on your own. If you choose to have your own private show, please follow the recommended guidelines on the firework packages, keep children far away from the explosives and ensure they are being set off in an open area downwind from where viewers are observing. Fireworks are only permitted to be discharged on Victoria Day (Monday, May 22, 2023) between dusk and 11:00 p.m. in Woodstock.
Many pool owners are opening their pools for summer this weekend. Parents need to be attentive to watching children in and around the swimming pool regardless of their swimming skill level. The Woodstock Police Service would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Victoria Day weekend.
