Assault Abuse and Victim Services

cup

The Woodstock Police Service Special Victims Unit works collaboratively with a number of community partners to provide service and support to victims of  human trafficking, sex related crimes, intimate partner violence, and elder abuse.

Victim Assistance Service of Oxford County (VASoc)

VASoc provides assistance to victims of crime and/or tragic circumstances. We offer emotional support, practical assistance and community referral information to victims and their families.

VASoc offers a variety of crisis intervention services to persons affected by crime and/or tragedy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Teams of trained staff and volunteer crisis support workers can provide assistance at a safe location or by telephone.

Witnessing or being involved in an accident, assault, robbery or violent incident are just a few examples of traumatic experiences that can upset us in a number of different ways. Each person reacts differently to a traumatic experience. There is no right or wrong way to respond.

A person's reaction to trauma may depend on the amount of trauma a person has experienced in their lifetime and the support they receive. Family members, friends, and others involved may also experience trauma.

VASoc can support victims of:

  • assault
  • elder abuse
  • fire
  • fraud/theft
  • criminal harassment
  • hate crime
  • homicide
  • human trafficking
  • intimate partner violence
  • motor vehicle collision
  • property crime
  • sexual assault
  • sudden death
  • tragic circumstances

For more information, contact VASoc at 519-537-2824 or visit their website.
