Community Service Unit

The Community Service Officer (CSO) is a Special Constable who engages at community events, educates the public in safety and crime prevention, manages media relations, and liaises with Crime Stoppers of Oxford. 

The CSO facilitates several community and educational programs, including:

  • Citizen's Police Academy
  • Kids & Cops Baseball
  • Kids & Cops Day Camp
  • Virtual Coffee with a Cop
  • Values, Influences & Peers (VIP)
  • Internet and Social Media Safety (kids & parents versions)
  • Frauds & Scams
  • Bicycle safety
  • Bus safety
  • Railway safety
  • Anti-bullying
  • Introduction to police
  • Personal & Property safety
  • Youth In Policing Imitative (YIPI) Summer Student program
  • Station tours
  • & more!

The CSO along with other WPS members and Auxiliary attend many community events, such as:

  • Blood drives
  • Torch Run for Special Olympics
  • Polar Plunge for Special Olympics
  • Community Fundraisers
  • Touch a truck events
  • Remembrance ceremonies
  • Holiday toy drive events
  • Food drives for the food bank
  • Parades

The CSO manages updating the media and public about investigations, safety tips and activities with WPS through traditional and social media.
